Alder is a very popular wood choice for cabinetry. It is a medium-hard Pacific Coast hardwood. The wood is reddish-brown to a pale yellow and has a straight grain, a uniform texture, and a subtle figure. Generally, Alder wood has small knots, under a quarter inch in diameter.
